Are Your Vacuum Gauges NIST calibrated? See Why It Matters

Posted by Tom Bassi on Jun 5, 2014 3:29:00 PM

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), is a measurement standards laboratory whose mission is to maintain the integrity and consistency of measurement standards in the US. NIST standards ensure consistency of measurement and are applied to digital vacuum instrumentation. Technical requirements are published in Handbook 44 that provides the "Specifications, tolerances, and other technical requirements for weighing and measuring devices". Um, HELLO vacuum gauge manufacturers....take a listen here....

As a vacuum consumer, why is this important to you? You want to make sure that your vacuum gauge is consistent and reliable,

providing you with the accurate information you require about the functioning of your system. You really didn't want to have to go back to that customer who's been driving you nuts AGAIN, did you?? Respectable digital vacuum gauge manufacturers ensure that all digital vacuum gauges are calibrated to a NIST standard before they leave the factory.

At Digivac, NIST calibration involves calibration using a higher accuracy vacuum gauge calibrated by an A2LA certified lab to the vacuum gauge being tested (click here to see accuracy for each of our products). All vacuum instruments that leave the DigiVac factory are calibrated under real vacuum against a NIST standard. Watch calibration in action as Digivac Production Manager and calibration specialist Tom Bassi demonstrates the calibration process using the StrataVac Model 201 and 801W.
